One of the biggest storylines of the baseball season for Chicago Cubs fans and Chicago White Sox fans has finally definitive resolution. When Pope Leo XIV was officially named, a Chicago native, the initial reports were that his baseball allegiances were with the Cubs. However, through recounts from his brother and a video showing him at a World Series game in 2005, it seemed the new Pope's ties were with the White Sox.

On Wednesday, the debate was officially put to rest. During a public appearance at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV was seen wearing a White Sox hat.

If we're being honest, the White Sox needed this moment. The White Sox remain one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball; however, there is reason to believe the Pope being their fan is already having an impact. Last week, the White Sox officially announced a long-term agreement with Justin Ishbia. Under the agreement, Ishbia could take majority control of the White Sox as early as 2029. A day when Jerry Reinsdorf is no longer the majority owner of the White Sox is one that White Sox fans have been begging for. We're not saying there was divine intervention involved, but if it was, White Sox fans probably aren't complaining.

Now that Pope Leo XIV is a confirmed White Sox fan, Cubs fans have wasted no time in reacting to the news online.

It has also been funny to think that there once was a time the Pope was an angry sports fan, so much so that he called 670 The Score. Anyone in the Chicagoland area knows that misery makes for the best call-ins during The Score's weekly programming. Perhaps, there was a time when Pope Leo XIV had such a great take that he just had to call in.

Heck, he may even have Cubs takes that are better than the ones that have been featured on The Score lately. At the end of the day, congrats, White Sox fans. There is official confirmation that the Pope is a White Sox fan. Hopefully, that is a sign that better times are ahead. If not, just know that the baseball team on the North Side will always be the better product.
