It only took one game for the Cubs to bury a ridiculous hot take

To the casual fan, a quick look over the last week of Chicago Cubs games would lead to the suggestion that the offense, as a whole, is in a slump. While there certainly is some truth to that statement, it also lacks context. The context of Mackenzie Gore, Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, and Zack Wheeler being among the starting pitchers the Cubs faced during that time. No matter the offense, there won't be much offensive success when facing those pitchers within the same week.

That would be the reason why some Cubs' takes, following their loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night, weren't quite adding up.

Cubs provide a powerful response to a lazy Chicago Sports radio take

One of the things that brings me the greatest joy is when a lazy Chicago Sports radio take can be proven wrong instantly. Fortunately, the Cubs afforded me that gift on Tuesday night. The Cubs defeated the Phillies 8-4 on Tuesday night. During their victory, Ian Happ had two home runs, and Michael Busch and Dansby Swanson each added a home run of their own.

Along those lines, Happ is very clearly turning his season around after an early-season slump. Entering play on Wednesday, Happ is slashing .255/.345/.397/114wRC+ with 7 home runs. Sure, Happ's slumps to begin each season have become an annoyance, but his track record proves that he turns his season around as the season progresses. Given his ability to also draw out plate appearances, he remains the Cubs' best option to bat leadoff.

It's a cute idea to suggest that Pete Crow-Armstrong should bat leadoff, but in this case, the adage of "if it's not broke, no need to fix it" applies when talking about the Cubs' starting lineup. Sure, the chaos Crow-Armstrong can create on the base paths makes a compelling case to be at the top of the order, but when you look at his chase rate, it's still the most definitive reason why he's just fine where he's at in the Cubs' lineup.
