Former Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant has had a forgetful tenure with the Colorado Rockies.

Injuries have been the theme of Bryant's time with the Rockies as the former National League MVP hasn't played in over 100 games in a season since 2021. Despite speculation at the end of the 2024 season that the Rockies may look to move on from Bryant this past offseason, the veteran opened the 2025 season still in Colorado.

Unfortunately, the early results of Bryant's 2025 season only further prove that the game has passed him by. Entering play on Sunday, Brant was hitless in 8 plate appearances with three strikeouts. Bryant's numbers with the Rockies aren't easy on the eyes and when he's on the field, it appears to be just as much of an eye sore to those covering the team.

Troy Renck of The Denver Post had a brutally honest assessment of where things stand with Bryant as a baseball player.

The going is getting worse for Kris Bryant

The Rockies will be in competition with the Chicago White Sox for being the worst team in Major League Baseball this season, so it's not as if Bryant's inclusion in the starting lineup is a precluding them from contending this season. When it comes to Bryant, there is no question that from a swing-mechanic perspective, Major League pitching has advanced past his skill set.

In winning Rookie of the Year and MVP honors with the Cubs, Bryant became an offensive force because of the upper-cut swing he had that placed an emphasis on launch angle. While launch angle is still very much a part of offensive philosophy, Bryant's upper-cut swing is no match for the uptick there's been in pitch speed. Combine that with the injuries, and it's no wonder Bryant's career as a Major Leaguer isn't aging gracefully.

Short of Bryant retiring, there isn't an easy out for the Rockies. Bryant is under contract through the 2028 season and considering the diminished offensive ability, there likely won't be a Major League team willing to take on that contract.
