After dropping one of two to a depleted Angels team, the Chicago Cubs look to pick up some steam in a showdown with the Miami Marlins to open the week.
At some point this season, we’ll see the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels conclude what was supposed to be a three-game set from this weekend. Of course, record snow for the month of April throughout Chicagoland postponed Sunday’s series finale one day after the bullpen imploded and the Cubs lost on a controversial check-swing strike three call in the ninth.
Chicago (5-9) instead got an off-day on Sunday before packing up and heading to South Beach to open a series against the Miami Marlins. Miami (4-12) is off to another frustrating start, in the midst of a rebuild that ownership has refused to put a timeline on. But for the Cubs, Sunday’s postponement may have been a blessing in disguise.

The Cubs were supposed to tap Tyler Chatwood to fill in for the injured Jon Lester in Sunday’s finale. Instead, they can skip Chatwood, who has been nothing if not unreliable since joining the team prior to the 2018 season and re-align their rotation. Yu Darvish takes the ball on Jackie Robinson Day Monday, followed by Jose Quintana and Cole Hamels.
Both Quintana and Hamels are coming off their best performances of 2019 their last time out and will look to build upon that success on the road at Marlins Park. Given the status of the Marlins’ offense (13th in the NL in OPS, 12th in batting average and dead last in runs), the two veterans may very well do that.
So, without Chicago Cubs baseball to keep us entertained, most tuned in to watch the highly-anticipated season premiere of Game of Thrones. Earlier this year, we tried to put a finger on which character from the HBO hit paired up best with our favorite members of the Cubs organization, so if you just can’t wait for that next episode, check it out below.
