Chicago Cubs: Prepare for NL Central showdowns in October

Three of the five teams in a playoff position right now are NL Central teams: Cubs, Brewers and Cardinals. If the Cubs win the division with the best record in the NL, then they will welcome the winner of the Wild Card game in the NLDS. Right now, that would be the Brewers or Cardinals. If the Brewers won the division, then the Cubs would likely face the Cardinals in the Wild Card game.

Right now there are several scenarios in which the Cubs would not face an NL Central team to start an October run. First, if the Cubs win the division but the Atlanta Braves and/or Los Angeles Dodgers pass the them in record. If that were to happen then whoever would surpass the Cubs would face the Wild Card winners.

The second is if the Cubs lose the division lead, go in as a Wild Card team and the Colorado Rockies overtake the Cardinals. Then the Cubs and Rockies would battle for a spot in the NLDS.

Next. Season winding down as Cubs eye another postseason. dark

There is technically a scenario where the Cardinals win the division and the Brewers and Cubs would play in the Wild Card game, but that seems very unlikely. Buckle up Cubs fans, it is going to be a wild ride.
