Please, let it happen.

Actually winning baseball games isn't the only change on the South Side. The man behind the microphone on Chicago White Sox TV broadcasts in recent years, John Schriffen, is out after three seasons with the team.

“John has been a true professional throughout his three seasons with the White Sox, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a distinctive style to our broadcasts,” Brooks Boyer, the organization’s executive vice president, chief revenue/marketing officer, said in a statement. “As his contract comes to an end, we believe this is the appropriate time to evaluate the direction of our broadcasts and determine what is best for the organization and our fans moving forward.

It was an... eventful tenure for Schriffen with the club. But we're not here to re-hash the past. We're here to look ahead - and daydream about the possibility this change could make Chicago Cubs fans quite happy in the process.

Before the White Sox hired Schriffen to replace Jason Benetti ahead of the 2024 season, there were rumors that Zach Zaidman could be the man to take over the booth at Rate Field. Now, we can't help but wonder if those rumors will re-surface.

Cubs need to replace Zach Zaidman in the booth, one way or another

With Hall of Famer Pat Hughes set to turn 72 in May, the Cubs need to start thinking about the future of their radio broadcasts. And in no world can Zaidman be part of that long-term plan. He's taken a larger and larger role with each passing year as Hughes calls fewer games and we can only hope a job offer from the Sox removes him from the equation.

The White Sox are beginning a nationwide search to replace Schriffen but I feel pretty confident saying that an overwhelming contingent of Cubs fans would personally drive Zaidman to an interview if it ended his time alongside Hughes and color commentator (and former All-Star) Ron Coomer. And if you're really serious about figuring out what's next, the Cubs should drop Zaidman and line up a plan to bring Len Kasper back to replace Hughes when he calls it a career.
