If you needed the SparkNotes of how this weekend’s series with the Seattle Mariners went, it could best be described as home runs, home runs and more home runs. With gusty winds all weekend, Wrigley Field turned into a hitter’s paradise as both pitching staffs struggled to keep the ball in the yard.
In Sunday’s finale, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki made a pair of costly errors in the field, but made up for it at the plate, clubbing his 19th and 20th home runs of the season for his fourth multi-homer game in 2025.

2025: Pete Crow-Armstrong & Seiya Suzuki
2016: Anthony Rizzo & Kris Bryant

With his second home run, he became the second Cubs player to reach 20 home runs on the season, joining young standout Pete Crow-Armstrong, who hit his 21st in Saturday's contest.
The pair of sluggers have been quite a lot of fun to watch both on and off the field, with their antics capturing the hearts of Cubs fans this year. Not since the golden days of Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have we seen an inseparable pair of teammates competing neck and neck over the course of the season.
We haven't seen a pair do this since the days of the Bryzzo Souvenir Co.
Crow-Armstrong and Suzuki are the first pair of Cubs teammates to each hit 20+ home runs ahead of the All-Star break since Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo did so in 2016. Both would go on to start the All-Star Game (alongside the rest of the Cubs starting infield) as the team captured their first World Series since 1908, with Bryant bringing home an MVP award in the process.
Bryant and Rizzo would hit a collective 332 home runs in a seven-year span as teammates that culminated in six All-Star selections, a Rookie of the Year award, three Gold Gloves, and a Silver Slugger award to go along with the aforementioned World Series ring and MVP award.
Both Crow-Armstrong and Suzuki are just now making the leap into stardom, but should they reach the level of Bryant and Rizzo, it would be a huge boost for a Cubs team making a desperate push to return to the top of the baseball world.
