MLB Power Rankings: Chicago Cubs crack Top 10 Spot in FanSided's latest writeup
The Chicago Cubs have won three consecutive series with their latest series victory coming in Los Angeles as the team took two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. The Cubs are now 8-6 on the season with a series beginning against the lowly Oakland Athletics on Monday night.
The Cubs winning their first regular season against the Dodgers in Los Angeles since 2014 has the feeling of an important moment in the young season for the team. The Cubs, backed by veterans looking to reignite their careers, are a team that is in need of a good start to the season to maintain the expectation of contending at the Major League level. The Cubs have found that good start to the season and that is why it is no surprise to see the team crack the top 10 in Tim Boyle's MLB Power Rankings for FanSided.
9) MLB Power Rankings: Chicago Cubs The Chicago Cubs had a very good week and are now 7-3 in their last 10 games. Maybe this club is for real after all. After an active offseason that looked like it gave them a competitive ball club but maybe not quite a winner, they’ve gotten off to a strong start. Justin Steele has joined Marcus Stroman in the April Cy Young race. Trophies don’t get handed out for that but it does make the fans feel good.
Since the second half of the 2021 season, the Cubs have routinely been near the bottom of MLB Power Rankings and so, it is encouraging to see the team begin to return to respectability as they embark on the 2023 season.
If the Cubs can maintain this success as the season progresses, there is no question that they will remain in the Top 10 of these rankings moving forward. There are still questions in regard to how successful this team will be at scoring runs and perhaps the team is already preparing for Matt Mervis to be that solution.
