Chicago Cubs fans are one week removed from the surprising deal that saw Christopher Morel dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays for All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes.

While it was clear that the Cubs were in need of aggressive offensive changes, the dealing away of Morel caught many fans off guard considering how highly the front office viewed his offensive potential prior to the 2024 season.

When news of the trade broke, Morel was playing third base for the Cubs in their game against the Kansas City Royals. Morel was removed from the game as cameras spotted him hugging his teammates in the clubhouse before heading to Tampa Bay.

At the time, Morel was surprised by the trade to the point where he could not express his emotions. On Monday, Morel took time out of his day to not only bid farewell to the Cubs' organization but say thank you.

Christopher Morel's latest social media post will have Cubs fans in tears.

As a professional baseball player, the Cubs organization was the only organization that Morel knew. The reason why many Cubs fans were quick to attach themselves to Morel was because of how clear it was that playing for the Cubs meant something special to Morel. Beyond that, Morel's embrace of not only players on the opposing teams but also umpires made him one of the most likable players in recent memory for the Cubs.

Morel may never play for the Cubs' again, but there is no question that he will be remembered as one of the most energetic players to ever put on a Cubs uniform.

Through his first 18 plate appearances with the Rays, Morel is slashing .154/.389/.615 with 2 home runs. The Rays have also exclusively played Morel at second base, and that has always been the position where he has been best.
