Chicago Cubs Prospects: Jordan Wicks named a top ten LHP prospect by MLB

Get the inside scoop on the Cubs' top pitching prospects. Find out why Cade Horton and Jordan Wicks are making waves in the MLB rankings.

Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this week MLB dot com ranked their top ten RHP prospects and the Cubs had the number two player on that list with 2022 1st Rounder Cade Horton. Since then they’ve also released their list of the top LHP prospects and yet again a Cub has made their way onto that list and it could have easily been two if the list had been put out a week ago.

2021 1st Rounder Jordan Wicks was ranked as the 10th best LHP prospect in the game and we had him as our 9th ranked prospect in the Cubs farm system when we released our top 30 prospects this month and we had this to say about him:

"The major difference between Wicks and someone like [Ben] Brown, Cade Horton, or Jackson Ferris is upside. Wicks is the kind of pitcher that every good team needs. He’s a solid middle/back of the rotation arm that will eat innings, not walk a lot of guys, and strike out a fair amount."

The irony in that statement is that Jackson Ferris has since been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in return for Michael Busch, but Ferris found his name as the 7th-best LHP prospect in the game.

Aside from the difference in ceiling that exists between Wicks and Ferris, the thing that matters the most for the Cubs is that Wicks is ready to help the Major League team in 2024 and Ferris is likely still at least two years away from pitching meaningful innings.
