Chicago Cubs Prospects: Cade Horton named a top three pitching prospect in baseball

Earlier this week we released our 2024 Chicago Cubs Preseason Top Prospects list and MLB.com is getting ready to do the same thing. 

As we get closer and closer to the beginning of the season MLB.com will be releasing their top ten prospects at each position and they began with the top ten RHP in the minor leagues.

Coming in as the third-best RHP prospect in the game is none other than Cubs 2022 1st Rounder, Cade Horton.

Here’s an excerpt of what we thought about Horton’s 2023 season and if you want to do a deeper dive into our thoughts you can see him at number two on our preseason rankings which are linked below as well.

"When the Cubs spent their first-round pick on Horton there was plenty of concern surrounding him...Last season, however, he pitched out of his mind. He opened the season with four games at Low-A and absolutely dominated the young hitters there. He was still young for the level but he earned a 1.26 ERA and had a 13.2 K/9 while walking just 2.5 per nine. "

Cade Horton deserves every bit of the credit he’s receiving right now and should be looked at as an absolutely untouchable piece moving forward this season regardless of the caliber of player the Cubs would be getting back in return (based on what’s currently left on the trade market). 

This is likely as high as Horton will rise on MLB.com’s list because if everything goes according to plan he will not end the season with prospect status remaining.
