Chicago Cubs probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. St Louis Cardinals, May 24
The timing could not be worse for the Chicago Cubs to play the St. Louis Cardinals for the first time in 2024.
After looking lifeless during the first month of the season, the Cardinals seem to be righting the ship. While this version of the Cardinals still shouldn't be feared given the lack of pitching the team has, the fact remains they have won 8 of their last 10 games.
Meanwhile, the Cubs appear to be headed in the other direction after a 2-5 home stand. Beyond any concerns there may be about the Cubs' bullpen, the fact of the matter is the team is struggling to score runs. In that sense, the Cardinals could serve as a get-right series for the Cubs' offense. But, as whole, this weekend series is not the gimme that it was looking like when the calendar first flipped to May.
Probable starting pitchers
- Shota Imanaga will get his first taste of the Cubs' rivalry with the Cardinals. Imanaga continues to be among the best starting pitchers in all of baseball this season as he sports an ERA of 0.84 through 9 starts this season.
- Friend of Ian Happ, Miles Mikolas, will be on the mound for the Cardinals on Friday night. Mikolas continues to regress from the pitcher he once was, posting an ERA of 5.77 on the season.
