The Chicago Cubs start a four-game series against the Miami Marlins on Friday afternoon after the game between the two teams on Thursday night was postponed due to inclement weather.

Despite the rainout, the Cubs made a pair of roster moves as Patrick Wisdom and Jameson Taillon were both activated from the IL. In the corresponding moves, Hayden Wesneski and Miles Mastrobuoni were optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Considering Wesneski was likely to be unavailable this weekend, it made sense for him to be the corresponding move, considering the doubleheader scheduled for Saturday.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Jameson Taillon makes his 2024 season debut on Friday afternoon after missing all of Spring Training with a back injury. Considering the struggles that Kyle Hendricks has had this season, the Cubs need Taillon to be the version of himself that the team saw during the second half of the 2023 season. The Cubs need stability from their starting rotation, given how taxed the bullpen has been lately, and Taillon returning to being the top-of-the-rotation pitcher that the team believed they were signing prior to 2023 would be a great development.
  • Left-handed starting pitcher A.J. Puk will be on the mound for the Miami Marlins and the Cubs should have plenty of scoring chances. Puk has allowed 10 runs (7 earned) in 10.2 innings pitched this season while walking 14 batters.
