The Chicago Cubs open three-game series on the road this weekend against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Fresh off a sweep of the Houston Astros, the Cubs continue to keep pace with the Milwaukee Brewers at the top of the National League Central. Of course, looking at division standings in April is far too early but mentioning the Cubs being at the top of the division speaks to how well the team has played through adversity. With injuries to Justin Steele, Julian Merryweather, Seiya Suzuki, and Cody Bellinger, the writing was on wall for the Cubs' hot start to be decimated by injuries. That hasn't been the case and it speaks to the manager they have in the clubhouse with Craig Counsell.
Probable starting pitchers
- Shota Imanaga gets the start for the Cubs on Friday night. Imanaga continues to be the anchor of the Cubs' starting rotation with an ERA of 0.84 through his first four starts. Once Justin Steele returns, the top three of the Cubs' rotation could be what carries the team through the injuries to Suzuki and Bellinger. Jameson Taillon has been excellent in his first two starts this season, and that would create an ideal postseason rotation of Steele, Taillon, and Imanaga.
- Making the start for the Red Sox on Friday night is right-hander Kutter Crawford. Crawford is having an excellent start to the season with an ERA of 0.66 through his first five starts this season while striking out 30 batters.
