Pete Crow-Armstrong should help Cubs replicate Silver Slugger success that feels sustainable

For as inconsistent as the Chicago Cubs' offense looked at the end of the 2025 season, it can't be lost that the team widely recognized among the Silver Slugger awards. Kyle Tucker was among National League outfielders to win the award, and the Nico Hoerner and Pete Crow-Armstrong were finalists at their respective positions. The Cubs were also a team finalist.

It was a reminder of just how good the Cubs' offense was during the opening months of the 2025 season. Crow-Armstrong and Tucker were in the early discussions for the National League MVP award before they faded out of the conversation for seperate reasons by the end of the season.

Crow-Armstrong struggled mightily during the closing months of the season, as did Tucker, who was also dealing with injuries. Still, the fact Tucker took away the honor is a reminder of just how good he was for the Cubs when he is right.

This time around, Crow-Armstrong should be a Silver Slugger for the Cubs. While there's been a debate this summer for whether or not Crow-Armstrong could pry the MVP award away from Shohei Ohtani, assuming the Cubs' center fielder doesn't fall off a cliff between now and the end of the regular season, there won't be a Silver Slugger debate.

Crow-Armstrong leads National League outfielders in home runs (33), wRC+ (154), and OPS (.929). As has been the case with his MVP argument this summer, the fact Crow-Armstrong has had a strong second-half also adds legitimacy to his Silver Slugger case. Since the All-Star break, Crow-Armstrong has a wRC+ of 155 with 12 home runs.

Cubs could replicate Silver Slugger success and enhance their playoff outlook

Even as a team, the Cubs are erasing the nightmare that awaited them at the end of the 2025 season. On the season, the Cubs have the highest team wRC+ in baseball with a mark of 114. They should be a team finalist for the Silver Slugger award once again this year, if not, the favorite. Since the All-Star break, the Cubs lead baseball in wRC+ at 124.

Crow-Armstrong's sustained success has certainly helped their cause, but so has Alex Bregman's emergence. Bregman is carrying a 158 wRC+ since the All-Star break.

Pitching is going to be the focus for the Cubs as they angle toward the playoffs, but the offense could be the actual element to their success. The Cubs' offense hasn't just been consistent this season, they've been one of the best in baseball outside of a six-week stretch in May and June. Short of those woes returning out of nowhere, the Cubs' playoff looks much stronger than it did last year.
