The Owen Caissie trade rumors are only going to grow louder with the MLB trade deadline one week from Thursday, and the Chicago Cubs could use their top prospect in an aggressive move to improve their Major League roster. However, given Caissie's dominance at Triple-A Iowa, there has been recent reservation regarding how willing the Cubs are to move a possible successor to Kyle Tucker in right field.

Through various reporting, we can begin to piece together the parameters in which the Cubs would be willing to include Caissie in a deal. Beginning with what Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney shared in their latest for The Athletic.

"No one in Chicago’s farm system is untouchable, as Hoyer likes to say, but the Cubs essentially have a tier of prospects they would not include in trades for rental player."

In a deal where the Cubs are solely getting back a rental player, it would seem unlikely that Caissie would be involved in such a deal. One could imagine that if the Cubs were looking to pry both Merrill Kelly and Eugenio Suárez away from the Arizona Diamondbacks, that feels like a deal where Jed Hoyer's front office would be willing to move Caissie.

Cubs could already know the return for Owen Caissie trade

It would also seem that the Cubs would be willing to make Caissie the centerpiece of their trade offer for a player who is under control beyond this season. At least, that was what Jon Morosi outlined during his latest for MLB Network.

A pitcher like Edward Cabrera of the Miami Marlins feels like one where Caissie would be the prize prospect headed to Miami. Cabrera is ascending toward being an ace of any rotation he is in, and is under control until 2029.

One thing is clear: the idea of the Cubs moving Caissie at the deadline isn't a foregone conclusion as it once seemed. The Cubs will be aggressive at the deadline, but that doesn't mean including Caissie in any deal they see fit. That said, Caissie is an ideal trump card for the Cubs to have in their pocket in case a bidding war breaks out for one of their trade targets.
