There are a lot of things that are great about the Chicago Cubs playing in a historic open air stadium. The atmosphere is great, the stadium itself is a prime destination for baseball fans of all stripes, and fans get to enjoy the weather when it is good. However, one downside of it is that, along with the unpredictable Great Lakes weather, is that rain can spoil even the most fun of division match-ups.
Such is the case with the much hyped matchup between the Cubs and Reds on Monday. In an attempt to avoid the storms coming through this evening, the start time was already moved up to 6:10 PM CST. That didn't immediately eliminate the risk of a delay, but was an understandable half-measure to try and dodge the rain without completely screwing over people who made plans to attend in person. Unfortunately, that change was not good enough and we are still going to be starting this game in a rain delay.
**UPDATE: 7:05 PM CST**
Just as we originally thought, this rian delay is not going to last beyond 8 PM CST this evening if the forecast holds. The Cubs announced via their Wrigley Field account on social media that the current plan is for this game against the Reds will get started at 7:50 PM CST/8:50 PM EST.

Cubs vs. Reds Rain Delay, 5/4/26: When will the game start?
Well, that is the million dollar question, isn't it? There is a good reason why the start time was moved, as there are a bunch of scattered showers that are going to be floating around in the evening hours. That said, they are scattered, so there is an element of randomness in play. There is a chance that this will be a short delay, but there is also a chance that this could last until 8 PM local time, although after that feels like a stretch given the current forecast.
We will keep this post updated with all the most up-to-date information regarding this delay including a potential start time when it is made available. Sit tight, Cubs fans, and stay dry if you are at Wrigley. Barring the unforeseen, there will be baseball this evening. You may just want to check this post frequently, because things could happen fast once officials make a decision as to what is an acceptable weather window.
