After dropping a weekend series to the Philadelphia Phillies at Wrigley Field over the weekend, the Chicago Cubs had the day off on Monday before opening National League Central play against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

Cubs fans will need to wait just a little bit longer before the Cubs and Pirates play on Tuesday. Originally set to start at 5:40 pm CST, the game will start in a weather delay.

As of this writing, the expectation is that the first pitch will be thrown around 6 pm CST.

Cubs vs. Pirates Rain Delay: Latest updates on the forecast and when the game will start

The good news is that it appears to be a very quick storm making its way through the Pittsburgh area. Throughout the day, the weather conditions were not looking ideal, with storms and wind expected around the time the first pitch would have been. Fortunately, the system is expected to pass through, and the team will be on the field within 20 minutes after the original start time.

The scheduled pitching matchup on Tuesday night was Shota Imanaga for the Cubs and Andrew Heaney for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs, near the end of the offseason, made an attempt to sign Heaney to a minor-league deal before he signed with the Pirates and opened the season in their starting rotation. Given it's only expected to be a 20-minute delay, both starting pitchers should still be good to go for tonight's game.

The Pirates are an ideal bounce-back series for the Cubs after their struggles against the Phillies this weekend. Entering Tuesday's game, the Pirates have a record of 11-18 and are in last place in the National League Central. With this series against the Pirates, it's a reminder that the Cubs' schedule is about to get much easier than it was in April.
