The Chicago Cubs' four-game set against the Cincinnati Reds was going to be an early litmus test for the National League Central. The Cubs had been trending in the right direction over the past couple of weeks, and a strong showing against the Reds would go a long way toward establishing themselves as a true threat to win the World Series.
If the first two games are any indication, the Cubs have arrived. Michael Conforto's walk-off home run on Monday night was further confirmation of how improved the bench has been this season, and Tuesday's walk-off victory was a reminder that when in doubt, this Cubs team is going to find a way to win the game if the door is left open.
This time, it was Michael Busch delivering the heroics in extra innings. It's been customary, especially for walk-off victories, for teams to take to social media and share the highlight. Usually, it's a compilation of the hometown calls, and the Cubs certainly have voices who live up to the moment with Boog Sciambi on the television call and Pat Hughes handling the radio call.
That wasn't the case on Tuesday night. Instead, in what was truly a brilliant troll of the Reds, the Cubs' social media used the call from Cincinnati's broadcast to mark how memorable these past two games have been.
using the reds broadcast is savage 😂😂😂

The Cubs may have broken the Reds
Everything about that call was perfect if you're a Cubs fan. Perhaps the best part was the silence from the broadcast team as the Cubs were celebrating. You can hear the Wrigley Field faithful signing "Go Cubs Go" as they just sit with the deflating feeling that is the way the Reds have lost the last two games against the Cubs.
There's also another hidden moment of hilarity with that moment. The ball hit by Busch should have been easily fielded by Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz. He was in a position to make the play, and instead, approached the ball as if he were an outfielder trying to stop the ball from reaching the wall. Poetic justice for De La Cruz's earlier taunt of Matt Shaw during the game.
Everything about this Cubs team is a vibe. They are emerging as a true World Series contender, and that should make Wrigley Field an immaculate scene this summer.
