It seems that there has been a growing segment of Chicago Cubs fans not exactly enjoying the style in which Boog Sciambi calls games for the Marquee Sports Network. The latest criticism of Sciambi arrived earlier this week when it seemed that he was building his excitement toward the Milwaukee Brewers throwing Matt Shaw out at home before Shaw ultimately beat the throw and was ruled safe.

Against their biggest rival, in the middle of playing five games against them throughout four days, emotions were high for the Cubs and their fans. Every play seemed to carry an added sense of pressure, especially when it came to the Cubs extending their lead. That is why it was a little odd that Sciambi almost seemed to be disappointed that Shaw beat the throw and scored. You can feel the excitement leaving his voice as he said "safe".

The common criticism of Sciambi has been that he treats Cubs games as if he were a national voice tasked with calling the game. It's not exactly the local feel that Len Kasper had when he was calling games for the Cubs, and considering the Hall of Famer, Pat Hughes, is in the radio booth, the difference can be felt easily.

Boog Sciambi criticism from Awful Announcing has Cubs fans saying “told you so”

That may have been at the center of some of the reviews Awful Announcing posted during their yearly review of baseball's broadcast teams.

"However, there was criticism there as well for both of the lead figures. Some of that for Sciambi included “I am over Boog,” “I like when Glanville is on. I’m not a Sciambi guy,” and “F unless Pat Hughes is on, then it’s an A.” There was also praise for substitute Cohen, including “Alex Cohen should be the full-time voice.”

Interestingly enough, these fans were in the minority, and Boog and Jim Deshaies ranked among the five best broadcasts in all of baseball.

There certainly have been odd moments for Sciambi when it comes to his calls, but for the most part, it has been an enjoyable experience. Again, I think the fans that don't like Sciambi have become afraid of change, and miss the feel Kasper's voice had when calling Cubs games. Stuck in that mindset, they find every little reason to get annoyed with what Sciambi does and says. However, as long as the grades remain high, it's safe to say there won't be any change to the television broadcast.
