The Chicago Cubs' offseason moves will almost 100 percent be defined by the impending free agency of Kyle Tucker.
Tucker re-signing with Chicago would leave little to no room for free agents and prospects, while the four-time All-Star leaving via free agency would open the door for not only free agents but also for Cubs prospects.
Here are the top three prospects that could be majorly impacted by Tucker deciding not to return to Chicago.
3 Cubs prospects most impacted by Kyle Tucker's free agency
Owen Caissie
Owen Caissie would be the primary beneficiary, as he would likely slot into the open outfield spot, much like he did earlier this season when both Tucker and Ian Happ were dealing with injuries.
Caissie's limited time in the majors saw him slash just .192/.222/.346 with one home run and a .568 OPS in 26 at-bats. It was a bit of a disappointing showing for the Cubs' top prospect, but his playing time was scarce, and those numbers should improve with more consistent playing time next season.
Moises Ballesteros
Now you may be wondering, why is a catcher/designated hitter on this list? Well, that is because more opportunities at DH may be available for Moises Ballesteros if there is no Tucker in the lineup.
Ballesteros spent a bit more time with the big-league squad last season than Caissie did, and he also performed at a higher level. Ballesteros slashed .298/.394/.474 with two home runs and an OPS of .868 in 57 at-bats.
He proved that with consistent at-bats, he is more than capable of producing in a major way against some of the best pitchers on the planet.
James Triantos
James Triantos is a name that wasn't talked about much last season, but 2026 may be the year he finally breaks through.
The 22-year-old slashed .259/.315/.370 with seven home runs and 31 stolen basea across two levels last season. Even if it isn't in a starting role, Triantos could be on the bench as outfield depth or a late-inning pinch runner without Tucker.
