Now that Owen Caissie is on the Chicago Cubs roster (even if he doesn't play all that much), the next prospect fans are dying to get called up is on deck. The good news is that the way that Moises Ballesteros has played this year, he's almost assuredly going to get the call-up when September rolls around in just a few days.
The catcher/designated hitter has already gotten a taste of Wrigley Field this year, granted, he's never been in Chicago for very long. However, every time he gets sent back down to Triple-A, he continues to rake and show that he deserves to be on the big league roster before the season is out.
Why Moises Ballesteros has earned a Chicago Cubs September call-up
Ballesteros went just 3-for-16 during his first stint with the Chicago Cubs back in May. Once he was demoted back to Iowa after just a few games, he slashed .308/.376/.478/.853 before he was called back up for an even shorter stay. While going 1-for-2 with 3 RBI, he was demoted almost as soon as he arrived and has been toiling away in the minors since.
While he hasn't been as successful since his second demotion, he's shown some growth that the Cubs should take note of when looking at giving him the call again next week. He's slashed .250/.342/.412/.754 and recently hit his third home run in August and 12th of the year in Iowa.
Ballesteros has also walked a bit more than he did at the beginning of the year, something that scouts said he needed to work on.
The uncertainty surrounding opening day catcher Miguel Amaya could cement the idea that Ballesteros will get called up shortly. While the Cubs are currently playing with Carson Kelly and Reese McGuire, neither is providing much in the way of consistent offense. Full-time DH Seiya Suzuki has already been mired in a months-long slump.
It would be a legitimate shock if the Chicago Cubs didn't recall Moises Ballesteros for the third time this season, once rosters expand on September 1.
