After a seven-game road trip taking the team to Miami to play the Marlins and Cincinnati to take on the Reds, the Chicago Cubs will once again return home Friday for the start of a six game homestand. They will start with three games against the Kansas City Royals this weekend, and three with the Colorado Rockies to follow.

During the last homestand at Wrigley, the Cubs went winless, resulting in a record of 0-7, dropping all three against the White Sox and all four against the Brewers in one of the worst homestand showings in decades.

The last time the Cubs won a game at Wrigley Field was on July 26. Need I remind you how?

Yeah, it’s been that long.

Needless to say it has been a struggle fest since that night for the Cubbies. After that win (and a couple trades you might have heard about), the North Siders have lost 18 of 22 games, plummeting to the bottom quadrant of the league. It’s been three solid weeks of pain, agony, and looking at a rotating cast of “who the heck is that?”

Nonetheless, the Cubs are coming home and they’re back to playing baseball at the Friendly Confines, the Federal Landmark, the cathedral of baseball – Wrigley Field.

The Royals and Rockies are in the midst of their own unimpressive seasons, and nobody is looking at the postseason this year. The Cubs are looking at level competition for them (unfortunately), so let’s take a look at what we can watch for this weekend as the summer months of baseball wind down.
