Chicago Cubs: Taking it all in

The future of this Cubs group is very complicated. The young core is nearing contract time and the team itself looks like it may be in the need of a shake up. Money is coming off the books but the farm outside a few guys is not strong. Retooling a core that has both succeeded and underachieved with aging veterans is not a typical recipe for success.

At the same time, trading away a player that is really good for unknowns is a very “rebuild” move. Not sure the Cubs are in that position just yet. If they en up missing the postseason and are below .500 near the deadline next year then that is another story. Again, it is complicated. That is why it requires sitting back and really thinking about the situation first.

Not saying wanting him traded for a haul is necessarily the wrong idea before 2021, but right now it would seem incredibly risky. Bryant has been one of the best players this team has had in a long time. This offseason will be interesting.
