Recently, Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez went from a MLB player who performs wicked stunts on the field to a recognized sports celebrity.

Did we really think we could keep him a secret? You know who I’m talking about. Last year’s National League MVP runner-up and Chicago Cubs sensation Javier Baez – a name that has become commonplace across the global baseball stage.

If we did hope people would overlook him moving forward, that was probably so we could extend him and lock him up as a lifelong Cub. But that’s all changed now because Baez has transcended his All-Star status and has become a superstar celebrity and, at this point, can call himself whatever he wants.

Baez came to the Cubs as the ninth selection in the 2011 draft. After moving around the minor league system for a few years, the Puerto Rican native finally got his first major league start against the Colorado Rockies on August 5, 2014.

Of course all of the signs were pointing to superstardom already as Baez hit the game-winning home run in the 12th inning.  The legend of El Mago was just beginning.
