Comic book and comic film fans are excited about the new Avengers movie release. Watching the Chicago Cubs highlights on the new YouTube channel reminded me of an Avengers origin story.
I finally had a day off where I could park it in front of the television loaded with Coke Zero and stuffed crust pizza. My goal was simple: watch every Chicago Cubs video on the new Cubs Youtube channel. I was going to have a binge day of Cubs and pizza with no interruptions (yes, I have issues).

As I started through the latest videos first, I was happily surprised to find how well made and thought out the channel comes off. There is heartwarming content on the site for all ages; from Cubs convention footage to bloopers to game shows. I was thoroughly engrossed.
Finally, the Cubs had harnessed everything we love about them and put it on the channel. Even a look into their off-season home life was heartwarming and interesting. I now know what Beatles fans felt like when they finally had access to their heroes: amazing.
There was one series of Cubs videos that caught my attention. The videos displaying the amazing play of Cubs players reinforced why we have a championship team and are not just a bunch of usual suspects. This week, more than ever, my mind is very attuned to the new Marvel Avengers movie being released. Maybe that’s why I started seeing these amazing plays on YouTube, like our own player’s superpowers.
Yes, I am serious, just like the Avengers, we have real-life, gifted, superpowered players on the Chicago Cubs and they were displaying their powers right in front of my eyes on YouTube. Knowing how the Cubs have struggled to get their offense going; put a good whoopin’ on the Milwaukee Brewers and get back to the Championship made me think that the name ‘Avengers’ is a pretty appropriate title for our Northside heroes.
