After a postseason of speculation surrounding the biggest free agent in a long time, the Cubs are 100% fine with bringing back the guys they had last year. A big part of that is because there’s a lot of potential in this group (the less optimistic of you may just say it’s because they’re still stuck with Jason Heyward’s contract).
The outfield group, in particular, is a group that could take a big step forward this year with some progress and maybe even some lineup consistency from skipper, Joe Maddon.
Kyle Schwarber, Albert Almora, and Jason Heyward will probably be the opening day starters, with Ian Happ serving as the de facto fourth outfielder. Then again, Ian Happ did start last year, as we all remember (if you happened to forget, he started the entire 2018 Major League season off with a leadoff bomb in Miami). Either way, these four guys will be on the Opening Day roster and Cubs’ fans will be looking forward to big seasons from all.
