In 2020, the Chicago Cubs will be launching their very own network. Now, information regarding another streaming platform has emerged and will happen sooner than expected.
Social media has been red-hot for the Chicago Cubs over the course of several years. If you’re not doing so, be sure to follow the team on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat as new content is posted daily.
Recently, Instagram released a feature that allows handles to post videos that are longer than 4 minutes a piece. Our Cubs have used this feature several times, most notably for Kyle Schwarber and his tour of Sloan Park.
It’s an exciting way for fans to see what the team is up to and how things are done when they’re not on television. Soon, things will be taken up a notch and should give more insight ahead of the network takeoff next year.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs will launch their own YouTube channel come Monday morning. Are we really surprised by this decision? Considering the numbers that YouTube brings on daily, it’s a smart decision by the organization to take advantage of the streaming service.
Millions upon millions of videos have been uploaded to YouTube, providing another source of revenue and entertainment for those “bored” with basic television. Almost anything you could think of can be found on YouTube.
Which is somewhat of a double-edged sword due to controversy with specific content providers but, hey, we’re not worried about that, are we?
What to expect?
Details regarding what will be posted on launch have not been provided. I’m assuming some sort of Ricketts family introduction to the channel will be seen first. Of course, there is a chance Kerry Wood‘s infamous 20 strikeout game could eventually find its way on the channel as well.
Also, anything World Series related including the parade which was attended by a million Cubs fans. The amount of content is endless and will likely become an advertisement for the Cubs Network later on in the year.
Since some events are being broadcasted live on YouTube, would the Cubs do the same thing? Probably not since they already have deals with other networks for 2019. Sad face for WGN-TV as it signals the end of an era that will never be forgotten.
Personally, I’d like to see something on Cubs greats being uploaded within the first month of the channel’s arrival. Documentaries on names such as Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, Billy Williams, Mark Grace, Harry Caray, and maybe even Pat Hughes or Sammy Sosa.
Yes, I’m still stuck on Sosa coming back home where he belongs. Get over it.
In due time
We’re only four days from this announcement coming to life. So, if you don’t use YouTube’s streaming service already, maybe the Cubs will give you a reason to start. We’ll see if they’re capable of competing with the likes of Pewdiepie, Dude Perfect, and WWE who has over 40 THOUSAND videos posted right now.
People still watch professional wrestling. I am one. What would you like to see on the upcoming Chicago Cubs YouTube channel? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comment section below. We always look forward to hearing from our readers.
