The Chicago Cubs enter Spring Training with a clean slate. Many of the players that were injured last season are healthy. Now the Cubs need to get off to a good start.
After a disappointing finish to the season, the Chicago Cubs feel they have something to prove. PECOTA projections have them finishing last in the Central. The offseason wasn’t filled with any big signings, and some don’t think the Cubs did enough to keep up in the division. This team would greatly disagree with all those assessments and is looking to prove it on the field in 2019.
There haven’t been many pitchers the likes of Kyle Hendricks. Not with the success he has had. There is one that many Cubs’ fans can think of, but you always have to temper expectations when you talk about Greg Maddux. I mean, it’s Maddux. But the consistency Hendricks goes to the mound with every fifth day can’t help but recall the days of Mad Dog. With all the big arms in baseball, the soft-tosser keeps getting the job done.
While last year might have ended in disappointment, the Cubs’ still won 95 games. Plenty of teams would be happy with that ‘debacle’ of a season. But the one thing that can’t be ignored were the injuries the Cubs suffered to key players. The Cubs had to adapt on the fly, and we’re still there at the end. If the team stays healthy, the possibilities are endless. But health can’t be guaranteed.
