Chicago Cubs News: Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist return to today’s lineup

CHICAGO, IL - APRIL 10: Kris Bryant
CHICAGO, IL - APRIL 10: Kris Bryant

Everything is fine. Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant returns to the lineup today after getting hit in the face with a 96-mph fastball.

Everyone, breathe. The Chicago CubsKris Bryant returns to action today against the Milwaukee Brewers. It was six days ago that Bryant took a German Marquez fastball to the head, keeping him out until today. He passed all the concussion protocols and had a small mark from where the ball hit his glasses.

It was starting to become a concern why Bryant hadn’t returned to the lineup. Maybe he just wanted the mark from where the ball hit his glasses to heal? I’m kidding, of course. The man took a 96-mph fastball to the face. However much time he needed? He was going to get.

KB returns

Bryant will return to the third spot in the lineup, hitting ahead of Anthony Rizzo. Bryant has been one of the hottest hitters in the Cubs’ lineup, batting .319 with a 1.003 OPS. He’s managed to hit just two home runs and 11 RBI, but the rest will find their way.

Ben Zobrist also returns to the lineup. He’s slashing a .326/.408/.465, with one home run and seven RBI. These two have been the glue, and with Javier Baez and Albert Almora? These guys are money.

For once, not all the players on the Cubs are coming through. But a portion of them is, which has lead to the two-game win streak.

For the Cubs, it’s a good time to pick things up–especially against the Brewers. Jose Quintana goes against Junior Guerra (2-0, 0.56). Guerra comes off of a fantastic game, allowing one unearned run against the Marlins.

Next: This is the winning we like to see

For Quintana, he posts a 2-1 record, but it’s the 7.78 that leaves questions. For Q, it’s been a matter of a few bad innings–much like Yu Darvish–that has lead to his downfall. Lorenzo Cain has had a fair share of his at-bat’s against Quintana, batting .293 with three RBI in 58 attempts.
