The Chicago Cubs got a stellar performance from Ian Happ, while Javier Baez stayed hot as the Cubs topped the Blue Jays 4-3 for their second consecutive win.
With the Chicago Cubs plagued by injuries, several players have stepped up their game to keep the Cubs heads above water in the NL Central. Ian Happ has started to heat up again as he moves around the diamond where needed. And Javier Baez solid second half continues to roll as he added another RBI single as well as another sparkling play in the field. Wade Davis tied the mark for consecutive saves by a Cubs reliever, matching Ryan Dempster.
The Cubs’ Jason Heyward is having a much-improved season compared to last year. But just how much better is it? His defense is Gold Glove quality day in, day out. But was he worth the big-time contract the Cubs gave him? We’re only two years into that deal, so he’s got time to turn it around. But if he can get back to the player he was that last year in St. Louis could be asking a lot.
Justin Grimm has had a rough go of it in 2017. Once one of the key cogs in the Cubs bullpen, he’s fallen on hard times. He’s struggled to find his command, and often it’s led to rough outings. And those have led him to the bus and back to Iowa. Can Grimm find the magic again? Or is his time in Chicago about to come to an end?
