Quality left-hander on the move?
In the loaded National League West, the San Diego Padres have virtually no chance of competing with its current roster.

Recently, San Diego asked for a a lot for left-hander Brad Hand. The southpaw is under team control for several seasons to come and has been one of the most reliable relievers in the game – albeit quietly.
Last year, Hand led the league in appearances with a 2.92 ERA in 89 1/3 innings of work. He followed that up in 2017 with a 2.52 FIP and his first All-Star appearance. It’s clear why he makes such a hot commodity for contending clubs.
But, according to the most recent reports, San Diego hasn’t found a fit – despite dropping their asking price.
Hand makes a lot of sense for most teams – including the Cubs. Brian Duensing settled in after a rocky start to the season and Mike Montgomery just shifted back to the pen, as well. Still, a shut-down left like Hand could be just what the doctor ordered as Chicago works toward the postseason.
