Former Chicago Cubs’ catcher David Ross impressed on Dancing with the Stars on Monday night, going outside of his comfort zone with his routine. Plus we had some takeaways from the opener in St. Louis.

When we started covering the Chicago CubsDavid Ross on Dancing with the Stars, he had some of the lowest odd to win. He’s continued to defy those odds, and this week he went to his inner-Channing Tatum as he took on the role of a stripped on Monday night’s DWTS. For our reaction and those of the Cubs that were watching, it’s a must-read.

One game isn’t enough to draw too many conclusions about where the Cubs season is headed. But that doesn’t mean we can’t take a look at the game and see where the Cubs went right, and in most cased went wrong. We know about Willson Contreras and his heroics. But what else could we pull from the opener?

It’s very rare to see Javier Baez misplay a ball. It turns out it was a poorly placed sign that may have caused it in the first place. After appearing to not see the ball off the bat, Baez let Joe Maddon know it was thanks to a white advertising sign behind the plate. Just like a batter’s eye in the outfield, a white sign behind the plate can have the same effect.
