Chicago Cubs: Is the All-Star game coming to Wrigley Field soon?

It’s the final day of the Chicago Cubs Convention and we’ve got a ton of topics to talk about today. Aside from one slugger wanting to hit more home runs, there’s a chance a Home Run Derby will take place at Wrigley Field, soon.

It will be 27-years since Chicago Cubs’ Wrigley Field has hosted the All-Star game. For awhile there, the All-Star game decided who would have home field advantage in the World Series. Last year, the American League won, setting the table later on for the Cleveland Indians.

And speaking of last year’s All-Star game, the Cubs dominated the ballot. The North Siders sent five players to represent the National League in San Diego — Jon Lester, Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Anthony Rizzo, and Ben Zobrist.

That was the most the Cubs have sent since 1988 — Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Shawon Dunston, Vance Law, Greg Maddux, and Rafael Palmeiro.

Now, when it comes to hosting the game itself, only three of the men listed above made it to the Summer Classic. So when will the Cubs have the opportunity at hosting it again following their World Series victory?

During the convention, President of Baseball Operations, Crane Kenney, spoke about a possibility of doing so, in 2020. That’s right, three years from now.

Inspection Required

According to Bruce Levine via CBS Sports, Wrigley Field, and Chicago must meet certain requirements in order to receive approval from Major League Baseball. Not entirely sure what needs to be done but hopefully, it’ll happen.

Business within Wrigleyville is booming as of late. Having another opportunity at bringing the All-Star game would be great for both the Chicago Cubs and businesses within the area when the time comes.

This year, the Miami Marlins will have the honors. In another year, it’ll be the Washington Nationals with 2019 up in the air, for now.

So, what do you guys think about this possibility? Surely, you’re all on board with the Chicago Cubs sending their own players to the All-Star game, in their own venue. Also, a Future’s Game and Home Run Derby with some new upgrades around the field.

One thing is for sure, the video boards out in left and right field are going to need some repairs when that time comes. Leave your thoughts and comments below the article. Would you attend?
