Chicago Cubs News: Trading for a starter or rolling with Montgomery?

The Chicago Cubs are preparing to get back to work mid-February when players begin reporting. It has been an eventful offseason for the third year in a row, adding more pieces.

Alright, so right now, the Chicago Cubs are still weighing their options. Do they go out and acquire another starting pitcher or save themselves the trouble and stick to someone they know. That man being southpaw, Mike Montgomery.

Montgomery has been excellent since he was acquired from the Seattle Mariners. Funny enough, when Montgomery found out he was traded, a teammate told him they can’t wait to watch him pitch in the postseason.

He entered Game 7 in relief of Carl Edwards Jr. and recorded the final out. One moment that Montgomery will never forget in his life.

Not only winning a World Series but doing so with the Chicago Cubs. A team that has been counted out numerous times only to finally reach the top. And honestly, the view is still beautiful.

Despite the Cubs losing Dexter Fowler, Aroldis Chapman, Jorge Soler and potentially, Travis Wood, the future is bright. In fact, it remains brighter than ever. Offseason work done by Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer may not be done.

There could be some interest in Alex Cobb. Possibly as nothing has been reported or confirmed yet but teams are interested. For awhile, it looked like Chris Archer was on Chicago’s radar. That was until the Boston Red Sox acquired Chris Sale.

The Chicago White Sox received a ton of prospects in return for Sale, giving Boston, arguably the best rotation in the league. However, the Cubs are not far behind.
