The Chicago Cubs traded from their outfield surplus, trading Jorge Soler to the Kansas City Royals for closing pitcher Wade Davis.
The winter meetings have been pretty quiet for the Chicago Cubs, but Wednesday they finally reminded everyone they plan to be part of the conversation for the 2017 World Series. With Kyle Schwarber returning to the field, the Cubs dealt Jorge Soler to the Royals for closer Wade Davis. Davis has been one of the best relievers over the past three seasons but had forearm issues in recent seasons. The Cubs were content with his medicals and a visit with their trainer before making the deal.
Davis will help to deepen the Cubs bullpen, and hope to make them stronger at the backend. But it can’t be ignored. Did the Cubs just trade another talented player away for what many think will be a “rental”? Much of that will hinge on Davis after next season. But the search for a reliever could be on again next year.
In case you hadn’t seen it yet, but you’re the best Cubs’ fans. The Fandom250 came out, and the Cubs were at the top of the list. How good are they? They topped a list of not just sports teams, but celebrities, singers and more. Who did they edge out for the top spot? Star Wars. You know, no big deal on that one.
