It was free baseball night in New York as Chicago Cubs starter
Jason Hammelserved up five home runs to the Mets including a three-run home run to rookie
Brandon Nimmoas the Cubs were outmatched by
Jacob deGromin game two of the series.
Kris Bryanthit a towering solo shot, but that was about the only highlight for the Cubs outside of a sacrifice fly later when the Mets already had the game in hand.
As the Cubs begin to get healthy again, the amount of bodies in the clubhouse just isn’t going to work. So who will be the odd man out? Will Jorge Soler stay in Iowa to work on his swing? Will it be Albert Almora, Jr. or Chris Coghlan to go to make room? The questions for the Cubs are going to come fast and soon.
While the Cubs have been the talk around baseball much of the first half, there’s another team that is drenched in futility having a good start of their own. The Cleveland Indians won their 14th consecutive game after a 19 inning marathon. Former Cub Darwin Barney was on the mound for the Blue Jays when Carlos Santana homered to give the Indians the lead and eventually the win.
