There are only two days left in April and the Chicago Cubs will open up their weekend series against the Atlanta Braves with the best record in all of baseball. Right-hander Jake Arrieta took the mound yesterday and had a few of his streaks snapped at the hands of the Brewers.
On Wednesday evening, game two of what should have been a three-game series between the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers was postponed due to the weather.
This forced both skippers on each side to push their rotation by a day, leaving the match-up between Jake Arrieta and Taylor Jungmann to take place Thursday afternoon.
Arrieta, who won his fifth game yesterday, was coming off his second career no-hitter. The Brewers made sure that they would not become his third victim by not only recording a base hit but driving in a run to snap his scoreless innings streak at Wrigley Field. And with the Cubs up by a handful of runs, Joe Maddon opted to remove his starter.
As a result, Arrieta’s consecutive quality starts stretch also came to an end. Still, he’s off to an impressive start of the campaign as his earned run average now sits at 1.00 on the year.

The man who caught his second career no-no, veteran catcher David Ross, hammered his second home run of the season. We all know that Grandpa Ross is playing his final year as an active player and has had a few clutch at-bats for the Cubbies early on.
His home run came during the bottom half of the second inning with the Cubs already holding a two-run lead. Ross worked the count full and pulled the trigger, sending the pitch out onto Waveland avenue. Easily the hardest home run I have ever seen off the bat of Ross.
Now that the Milwaukee Brewers are out of town, the Atlanta Braves will make a weekend visit. And of course, all eyes will be on right-fielder Jason Heyward who made his big league debut with the Braves. Actually, his first major league game came against the Cubs.

Heyward is yet to record his first home run as a member of the Chicago Cubs, so how sweet would it be if he were to leave the yard with the Braves in town? Atlanta currently has one of the worst records in the league.
It’ll be another afternoon start for the Cubbies and Braves.
