The Chicago Cubs started off the week by claiming two games from the St. Louis Cardinals. Right-hander’s John Lackey and Jason Hammel shined on the mound, holding the Redbirds to one earned run between the two of them. And we received news regarding Schwarber’s injury.

After finishing their first homestand of the 2016 regular season with a 4-2 record, Joe Maddon and the then 9-3 Cubs rolled into St. Louis with a few former Cardinals on their roster. Lackey didn’t receive as much of a negative reception as right fielder Jason Heyward who was reportedly welcomed with racial slurs.

Not quite sure why fans who were involved took it upon themselves to do something as tasteless as that but he didn’t let it get to him. Despite Heyward going hitless in his first two games in St. Louis, the gold glove outfielder made several defensive plays that were key in both Monday and Tuesday’s victories.

This outfield suffered a huge blow during the first week of the season when left fielder Kyle Schwarber tore both his ACL and LCL on top of spraining his ankle after colliding with Dexter Fowler.

It was mentioned last night by Chicago Cubs play-by-play man Len Kasper that Schwarber underwent successful surgery that was performed by Dallas Cowboys team physician and a top surgeon in the state of Texas according to the Chicago Tribune.

Schwarber will be on track to make his return to baseball next season. There’s a very good chance that he could end up sitting with the team in the dugout when they play at Wrigley Field for the remainder of the year. Hopefully, they’ll allow him to make a few road trips as well.
