The Chicago Cubs got back to their winning ways, using strong starting pitching and defense in place of the offensive juggernaut they used in the first three games.

The

Chicago Cubs

ended their “losing streak” behind a solid start from

Kyle Hendricks

and some solid defense in their 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The win for Hendricks left

Jason Hammel

as the only starter not to get a win, but he was just as deserving of one.

Ben Zobrist

put together a three-hit game and knocked in a run, as did

Anthony Rizzo

,

Kris Bryant

and

Miguel Montero

.

Hendricks was in control most of the game, less a wild pitch that allowed a run in the fourth and a double by Brandon Drury in the seventh. But he allowed just four hits and two runs in his 99-pitch performance. The victory assured the Cubs will return home to Wrigley with a winning record.

The NL Central once again boasts several strong teams, although one is a bit of a surprise. The Cincinnati Reds–who the Cubs will host upon returning home–are in a three-way tie atop the division. Granted, three of their wins were against one of the worst teams in baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies. But the Reds still have some talent–underachieving at times–but it’s there.

They essentially stole Eugenio Suarez from the Detroit Tigers for Alfredo Simon, then got Simon back a year later.I can’t be mad. Jason Hammel and Addison Russell sound familiar? Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips can still hit–but the young pitching staff will be the biggest question mark. It’s only five games, so plenty can–and will change this season.
