Morning Marquee: Chicago Cubs top surprises so far; Time to drink the kool-aid?

Early season surprises making some believe the hype

The Chicago Cubs have gotten off to a strong start in 2015, and along the way have had several surprises. Co-editor Jacob Misener takes a look at the top five, including the promotion of

Addison Russell

in mid-April, a move few of us saw happening this soon. Take a look and see what others made the list for the opening month of the season.

The strong April has some people wondering, should I be drinking the blue kool-aid? A good first month could simply be fool’s gold, but this team seems poised to have a sustained run through this season. It’s a team built on different principles than past Cubs’ teams, and that’s in part to skipper Joe Maddon. So is it time to pour yourself a glass? Co-editor Nicholas Blazek thinks so.

The All-Star ballots were released on Wednesday, and eight Cubs made the list. Of those, only Chris Coghlan and Tommy La Stella seem unlikely to have a shot, but there’s a long ways to go? Our Michael Settepani takes a look at all the Cubs on the ballot and how their chances on being NL All-Stars looks early on.

Last season, Starlin Castro had a bounce back season, once again making the NL All-Star team. entering 2015, there were still questions about him as the Cubs future shortstop. Would he be unseated by Russell, or possibly Javier Baez? He’s quickly answered many of them with his play, continuing to be a force at the plate, while greatly improving his play in the field. It’s a different Castro out there this season, an even better version of the prior.
