Poll Results: Where Will Ryan Dempster Be Traded To?
With trade rumors involving Chicago Cubs starting Ryan Dempster heating up over the course of the past week, Cubbies Crib asked the question last week where will Ryan Dempster be traded to. At the time, we included the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and the option that Dempster will remain a Cub for the remainder of the season. To update things, it would appear that Yankees’ interest in Garza is less sincere than it is in fellow Cubs’ starting pitcher Matt Garza. The Red Sox, like the Yankees, appear to have a stronger interest in Garza as well. Meanwhile, the Braves, Dodgers and the Detroit Tigers are believed to be among the aggressive teams for Dempster.
There is no need to go over the poll results as there was an overwhelming majority. The team that most Cubs’ fans think Dempster will be traded to is the Dodgers. The Dodgers had 66% of the vote, while the next closest team, the Braves, had 12% of the vote. The Dodgers remain a likely suitor for Dempster, though reports over the course of the past 24 hours would suggest that the Dodgers may not be able to match the other strong bids that are potentially being offered by the Tigers and Cleveland Indians.
The Dodgers are believed to have an offer on the table for Dempster. The belief is that the Dodgers are offering pitching prospects Garret Gould and Chris Withrow. While both Withrow and Gould are respectable pitching prospects, one would have to imagine that the Tigers could be offering a package of prospects that has more value than the Dodgers’ package. There is a chance that the Tigers are offering pitching prospect Jacob Turner in a package for Dempster, and that should be enough to entice the Cubs to make the deal with the Tigers.
While I initially had the feeling that Dempster would be traded to the Dodgers, I now suspect that Dempster will be traded to the Tigers.
