Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro is quickly becoming one of the game’s best young players. After being named to the National League All-Star team as a reserve, Castro is getting closer to reaching superstar status. Castro is the Cubs lone representative in the All-Star game, though, there is a chance that he could be the starter at shortstop for the National League team.

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, who is having an MVP type of season, was elected as the starter at shortstop for the National League team. However, Reyes suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the Mets and Yankees game yesterday, and a trip to the disabled list may be in store for the Mets shortstop.

Meaning Castro may have the chance to replace Reyes as the starting shortstop for the National League All-Star team. Castro is hitting .309/.340/.427/.767 this season with 30 extra base hits and 37 RBIs.
