Monday brought on a new pair of embarrassing lows for the St. Louis Cardinals. The Chicago Cubs' rival announced a record-low attendance number at the third iteration of Busch Stadium, revealing that only 17,675 fans witnessed an absolute meltdown for Willson Contreras.
In the seventh inning of the Cardinals' 7-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Contreras struck out on a called third strike. After beginning his walk back to the Cardinals' dugout, Contreras then reversed course and had some choice words for home plate umpire Derek Thomas. Contreras was ejected from the game, but didn't leave it at that.
As Contreras had to be held back by Cardinals' manager Oliver Marmol, who was also ejected from the game, he proceeded to throw his bat, seemingly to hit Thomas. Instead, the bat wound up hitting Cardinals' coach Brant Brown.
Willson Contreras loses his mind in meltdown that makes Cubs fans glad he's not their embarassment
"Willson was hot. My guess is that he heard something. And then, Mount Vesuvius happened."

"Frustration understood. It happens. Not to that extent though."

Even then, Contreras continued to show the lack of character he has by throwing a bucket of gum onto the field. It seems that Contreras' meltdown has become some type of monthly quota that he has to hit. Time after time, Contreras feels slighted over things that seem elementary.
During a game against the Cubs in June, Contreras' "it's you, not me" persona was on full display when he got heated over an incidental hit by pitch. Contreras seemingly wanted to take on the entire Cubs' clubhouse after the game. After the game, Contreras realized how silly he looked and apologized, but it was another instance of how shot his character has become.

At this point, the baseball world just needs to come to grips with the idea that Contreras is a bad guy. The emotion that was once admired by the Cubs fans has become a sad look as he continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

With each immature tirade from Contreras, it's become increasingly clear how protected he was during his time with the Cubs. It was only after he left the Cubs that Contreras' "volatile" behavior with the team was reported on. At this point, Contreras has become a car wreck with each crash out being worse than the one he had last time. Alas, thankfully, it's not the Cubs' problem.
