While all Chicago Cubs fans' eyes are on third base prospect Matt Shaw (for obvious reasons), the club actually has several other farmhands who are worth monitoring for both this year and in the future. One such prospect, Jefferson Rojas, reminded people to watch him as he absolutely went off this weekend.

Rojas, who could end up playing either second base or shortstop when he finally arrives in Wrigley, got a late start to the season due to an injury, but he's starting to hit his stride in South Bend. The Cubs' No. 6 prospect looks like he might be putting together a career-best season.

Jefferson Rojas surging after late start, giving Cubs reason to believe in his breakout

On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs High-A player went 3-for-4 with two homers (in back-to-back at-bats) and three runs batted in. While those numbers couldn't help South Bend get the victory (they lost 10-3), they do show why the big club is getting quite excited about the 20-year-old.

Despite his season not starting until April 15, Rojas is now boasting a .300/.387/.513/.900 slash line with 4 home runs, 15 RBI, and 5 steals in just 21 games.

The biggest deal about all of this is that Jefferson Rojas is showing some real growth at the plate after suffering through his worst season in the minors in 2024. His slash line of .245/.310/.336/.646 last year in a full season in South Bend obviously made people a bit nervous, mainly because of his age at that level.

However, the good news is that even after the injury, he's now looking like someone who could get the call to move up to Double-A and really start climbing the ranks of the minor leagues soon.

Despite some concerns over his struggles in 2024, the Chicago Cubs farmhand is still the No. 78 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com's rankings. If he keeps hitting like he did on Sunday, he'll climb that list in no time.
