While most of the attention from Chicago Cubs fans is currently on what the big league club is going to look like in 2024 after a somewhat quiet offseason. Cody Bellinger is back finally, the Cubs added an interesting arm in Shota Imanaga, and Chicago is going to have to hope for guys like Dansby Swanson, Christopher Morel, and others to step up in 2024 to give the team a chance of getting back to the postseason.

For diehard Cubs fans, however, one guilty pleasure is always to be looking to the future to see how Chicago's crop of prospects is doing. Usually, that would mean having to wait for the start of the minor league season, or even the Futures Game during the All-Star break. However, things are very different this year, as MLB has introduced the Spring Breakout series, which will pit prospects from each organization against each other in a series of exhibition games in the middle of March.

For the Cubs, that means that their squad of prospects will take on the lesser of the two Chicago clubs' crew, the White Sox, before the start of the 2024. How does one watch such a thing? Well, you will be able to watch it for free right here at Cubbies Crib.

MLB Spring Breakout: What to expect from Cubs vs White Sox

On Friday, March 15th at 5:05 PM EST/4:05 PM CST, Cubs prospects and White Sox prospects will be playing against one another in a really fun matchup for the inaugural year of the Spring Breakout series. The way Spring Breakout works is pretty straightforward. There are going to be 16 games, including this one, that will be taking place over a four-day span in the middle of March. The rosters for each team are built by the organization, but the guidance the team has been given is to include as many Cubs Top 30 prospects as possible to highlight up and coming prospects.

Said rosters will be announced on March 7th at 11 AM EST/10 AM CST, but this post will also contain who the Cubs decide to field once the rosters are set, so all you have to really do is bookmark this page. Thanks to a partnership with STN (more on that in a minute), readers of Cubbies Crib will be able to watch the game for free right here, so again...save this page for later if you don't want or have access to ESPN+ or Marquee Sports Network, which will also be broadcasting the game.

Cubs fans can expect the game to look a little different from the usual games. Each game is only going to be seven innings long, which includes no extra innings (ties are allowed). Pitchers can re-enter the game if need be, similar to how things are done in spring training, and the ABS automated strike zone will be in use.

The opportunity to offer these games to our readers would not be possible without Minute Media's new partnership with STN, who is an industry leader in providing sports video content worldwide. We can't thank them enough, and fans should keep an eye out for more opportunities like this going forward. Again, bookmark this page and once March 15th rolls around, you will see an embedded video player where you can watch Cubs prospects in action.
