Chicago Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger pounded his second home run of the spring on Thursday against Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Brandon Pfaadt.

Bellinger's bomb wound up being the only run the Cubs scored in the afternoon contest, as they fell to Arizona by a score of 3-1. Southpaw Drew Smyly took the mound for Chicago and was tagged for a pair of earned runs before exiting in the fifth inning.

Cubs looking for Cody Bellinger to help pace the offense in 2023

The Cubs are looking for Bellinger to be one of their power bats in a lineup in desperate need of home runs. Although he hasn't exactly lit up the statline so far, with just a .192 batting average and .596 OPS, the 27-year-old has time to get into form still with two weeks until Opening Day.

Bellinger has worked with Cubs hitting coaches to tweak his swing, and get back to a mechanical rhythm similar to his 2019 MVP season. That year, he established himself as one of the premier power bats in the game, hitting 47 home runs and leading the league with 351 total bases.
