Before rain canceled Wednesday's Chicago Cubs - Cincinnati Reds matchup, Chicago starting pitcher Caleb Kilian laid out to catch a pop-up on a bunt attempt by TJ Friedl.
Kilian also looked solid on the mound with four innings of work and three strikeouts, including a four-pitch first inning. The young righty also kept his cool when he loaded the bags with two outs in the third inning and was able to get out of the jam with minimal damage. After his outing, Kilian praised his offseason mechanical tweaks at the recommendation of Cubs coordinators and his progress on his offspeed deliveries.
Kilian is making his case for the Opening Day roster, but there will be few spots available come March 30. Worst-case scenario, Kilian begins his year in Iowa where he will get consistent starts until his eventual call-up to the majors.
