Watch Chicago Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger hit first home run of Spring
Chicago Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger has been showing forms of his 2019 National League MVP offensive approach during Spring Training this season and that trend continued on Wednesday in the team's exhibition against Team Canada.
Part of what made Bellinger so special as an offensive threat during his climb toward winning the National League MVP award in 2019 was his ability to drive the ball to all sides of the field. With that approach, the power numbers came easily for Bellinger.
That was the approach that Bellinger had on Wednesday as he drived a ball to left field during his first at-bat of the game against Team Canada and followed up with a home run during the 6th inning of the game.
All in all, it has been an encouraging showing for Bellinger thus far during Spring Training. The offensive production that Bellinger had on Wednesday is what the team was hoping the center fielder could provide in 2023. The Cubs are a team that lacks a true power hitter and Bellinger returning to form, or at least, getting closer to his 2019 form would go a long way toward the team having offensive success this season.
