If the fact Shota Imanaga has a 1.08 ERA and the Chicago Cubs have won all seven of his starts wasn't enough to make you love him, perhaps this will do the trick.
After pitching into the eighth in the Cubs' 3-2 walk-off win over the Padres at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, Imanaga spoke with reporters and suggested he might have to change his alarm clock settings moving forward.
Imanaga has quickly become must-see TV every time he takes the mound, turning in dominant start after dominant start. The only damage San Diego mustered on Tuesday came via a Jurickson Profar homer in the top of the eighth - and the Cubs offense quickly answered back, capped with a rain-soaked Michael Busch walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth to keep Imanaga's record spotless.

At this point in the season, he's not only the front-runner for NL Rookie of the Year but has to be in the conversation for the National League Cy Young Award, as well. He's won over the fanbase and his teammates for what he's done on the mound, but he's quickly made his mark in the clubhouse as well.
“I can’t appreciate this enough because I don’t know what it feels like, but like to be in a locker room and not speak the main language fluently has got to be so hard,” Nico Hoerner told 670 The Score on Tuesday. “I know we’ve talked about that before with Seiya (Suzuki) and the challenges of that. But I appreciate that he’s very willing to make fun of himself and he’s not nervous about looking bad or saying something wrong. Like, he’s going for it all the time, loves interacting with the teammates. He’s hilarious.
With his latest start under his belt, the Cubs left-hander sits at 5-0 in seven starts with a league-leading 1.08 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP that ranks fourth in the Senior Circuit. At some point, there will be at least some level of regression, but for now, we're all just soaking in the Shota Show every five days.
